A message from FoCCP Chairman

Hello and welcome to Cotgrave Country Park.

We are fortunate to have a rugged and simplistic Country Park created from the land left by the old Cotgrave Colliery which closed in 1992 after approximately 30 years of production.

The park is a great legacy from an industry that once dominated our local community.

Earthworks to form the park began in 1997. The industrial remains of the site were re-shaped to form a new landscape, creating ponds, wetlands, woodlands (120,000 trees planted) and paths that would benefit wildlife and provide recreation facilities for local people.

120 hectares (400 acres) of land were restored, and this is now shared equally between the Country Park and agricultural land use.  In 2000 Cotgrave Country Park was offically opened.

The end result is a facility that continues to develop and evolve every year. Providing habitats for wildlife and free public space to be enjoyed by the community for generations to come.

There are two view points on the park which offer up fantastic vistas across the City of Nottingham to the West and the Vale of Belvoir to the East.   The disused Grantham Canal bisects the park and adds extra features of various forms of wildlife as well as public fishing.

The park is owned and maintained by Nottingham County Council. The Friends of Cotgrave Country Park (FoCCP) is a community volunteer group that supports the managment of park.

FoCCP group welcomes volunteers who would like to assist us in our work.  If you have some time please, join us and help support our park.

The park is there for all users, please enjoy it.

Thank you for visiting.
